What is an arbor? An arbor is a type of archway that is commonly placed in gardens, backyards and even some times in front yards leading up to the door to help frame the home's entrance. An arbor creates a beautiful dynamic in your yard's architecture and helps define sections or pathways in your garden if you have a lot of overgrown or overbearing plants.
Not only do arbors provide your home with a fantastic curb appeal, but they can be incredibly useful as well. Arbors can provide more room for your plants to grow, giving climbing flowers and vegetables, fruits and other plants a place to latch on to, like a trellis, but much more appealing to the eyes.
It's important to decide on where you want to place your arbor, as they are often rooted in place once they are built. Placing an arbor too close to your doorway, for example, may prove the be hazardous or aggravating in the long run. If your door has a step down, you may run the risk of bumping your head, or plants may over grow and begin attempting to climb your door. It's wise to place your arbor at least three to four free from any door to avoid these problems.
The look and feel of your arbor is important as well, and it is up to you to decide the materials, stains, and paint to use when decorating your arbor. Many people will use arbor as a wedding arch even, so if you plan to have or host a wedding in your beautiful back yard, then you will want to take this into consideration. White vinyl is a common material choice for this reason, as vinyl can be power washed clean and take little to no maintenance otherwise.
